Faith 'n Fiction

Faith 'n Fiction Saturday: The First Christian Fiction Book You Remember Reading At My Friend Amy she has connected bloggers every Saturday to answer a question. Please leave a comment below answering the following and then go back to Amy's blog to read other bloggers answers.

Today's Question:We all come to faith in Jesus at different times in our lives and we all come to Christian fiction at different times, too! What's the first book in the Christian fiction genre you can remember reading? What was your impression of it? Did it make you want to read more or less?

The first Christian Fiction I remember reading was Dee Henderson's The O'Malley series. I loved the characters and hated when the final book was done. These novels also made me look closer at the book of Luke. After reading this series or perhaps more likely after reading the first I changed what I valued in a book. I wanted the fiction that I loved to escape to to also reflect my faith.

What an awesome comment. Good for you. I do find that I prefer the books that reflect my values so much more than the ones that don't. Great answer.

I have never read these. They sound great. I liked your answer. I think it is important to read what reflects your faith, and it is so nice to find good fiction that does that.

That series sounds good! I don't think I've heard of it, but I'll have to try and check it out. Thanks for commenting on my blog!

I think that books that reflect our values is the truest description of reading Christian fiction. That's why I get upset to hear it slammed by the general market as sub-standard. I also get upset when Christian authors don't take the opportunity to let Christ shine through their writing. Seems like they are missing an awesome opportunity!

When my boys were shorter than me (that means before they turned 14 years old, around 20 years ago now) I found Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly series. I was so excited about it I sat my whole family down and we read the first book aloud together. They didn't want to continue with the other books but it made an impression on my sons so much so they know about it still and sometimes we hash over the parts in the book. I loved that there were no bad words or indecent scenes. Wholesome enough for the whole family's enjoyment.
