Spotlight on Cecelia Dowdy

The Spotlight is shining on Cecelia Dowdy the author of Milk Money that I reviewed earlier this month. You can check out the review here. As always there is a giveaway for the book so be sure to leave a message.

Tell us a little about yourself . I write Christian romance novels in my spare time (which is evenings, mornings and weekends). I work full time as an accountant at a non-profit science publishing organization. I’ve been married for five years and we have a three year old son.

Here is a brief summary of the novel:
Running a dairy farm is a big job, but doing it alone is almost impossible.
When her dad dies, Emily must work hard to save the family farm, but she manages. Until the day the CPA pulls in her drive and announces he’s there to do an audit on the place.
Franklin Reese is appalled at the lack of interest the Cooper women have in the financial end of their livelihood, but he dives in, determined to help them learn. The further he looks into Mr. Cooper’s dealings, however, the more uncomfortable he becomes.
Can he uncover the truth of the situation and still earn the love of the amazing Emily Cooper? Will Franklin's addiction to alcohol keep them apart, even after the farm is taken care of? Only God can heal hurting hearts and repair broken lives. Will these two let Him in?

What book are you reading now? What books are found lying around your home?
Right now I’m reading Love Finds You In Valentine, Nebraska by Irene Brand. Most of the books lying around my home are Christian fiction titles by various authors. You’ll find piles of Heartsong Presents romances and Heartsong Presents mysteries since I’m a member of both book clubs. You’ll also see novels I’ve purchased over the last year at the Family Christian Bookstore. I have a smattering of ABA fiction, too.

If your book was being discussed at a book club what do you think the focus of the discussion would be on? It would probably be focused on alcoholism and other substance abuse problems and how we need to lean on God to overcome these problems.
I always am trying to learn new ways to be organized in the office, what is your favorite organizational tool? I’m afraid I don’t have one! My office…no, make that my house, is a mess! There is stuff EVERYWHERE! Plus our son is always playing with various toys and he has stacks of books around the house too. It’s a nightmare if I lose something…it takes forever to find it again!
I love old black and white movies and the old musicals. What is your all time favorite movie? As of right now, it’s Titanic.

What would you like your readers to say about your writing? I would like them to say they’ve read a good, inspirational story that gives a great message, with characters that they’ll remember for a long time!

What are your pet peeves in the writing industry? The main one is the length of time you’ll sometimes wait to hear from editors and agents after submitting! I believe the longest I’ve ever waited was two years!
What do you hope to accomplish this year? I have a story that I started when I was still pregnant with my three year old. I hadn’t been able to focus on the story because of my 3-book commitment to Barbour for my Maryland series. Now that I’m finished with that commitment, I’m hoping to finish this novel and submit it to an agent.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not slaving over the computer creating another wonderful novel? I love to bake desserts. My favorites are lemon pound cake and chocolate chip cookies.
What is your favorite verse from the Bible?
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
What advice do you have for aspiring authors? Besides praying for guidance with your writing, you should join a good writers group. American Christian Fiction Writers is a great group, and they have an awesome conference every year!
If you would like to win this sweet romance be sure to leave a comment and a way for me to contact you.
The daily question is: Since the book is about a farm, I want to know if you are a city person or a country person. I love living out in a small town but I do like the convenience of town. I mean a quick cup of Starbucks or the ease of going to the grocery store at midnight is really nice.

Even though I live in a city, I have always wanted a house in the country with plenty or breathing room. This book looks like a good read. Please sign me up for the drawing.

definitely a country girl at heart, living in the city. Having lived in both locales, my heart longs for the quietness of living away from neighbors. However, there is a part of me that dsilikes being too far from a bookstore and a Starbucks :) The drawing sounds great!

I was born and brought up in a good size city. I moved to the country 26 years ago and now I wouldn't live anywhere else. Thank God I'm a country girl.

Hi Donna,
I am so happy that I learned how to leave comments. I'm 67 years old so I don't know too much about blogs and twitters(whatever they may be) so I'm just happy to know how to leave a comment. I've been in Recovery for three years and these books are really a big help.

I'm a small-town girl, and not sure I could live deeper out in the country. I like the convenience of being close to everything without city traffic, noise and skyscrapers.

Please enter me for this book. I read John's Quest by Cecelia and loved it!
